Congratulations You’re Engaged! Now What?

Call your relatives and close friends, no one likes to see that on social media or be the last to know!

You’re newly engaged and excited to tell the world, but before you do be sure to make a list of those that are closest to you and your fiancé and make a call to tell them personally.

Make sure to get your new bling insured and sized for your finger if needed right away.

Life happens, accidents, etc. Most home owners’ policies and renter’s insurance offer riders for jewelry. If you don’t have a receipt be sure to have an appraisal done.

Set the date!

It doesn’t have to be an exact date, but you need to discuss if you’d like a summer, fall or winter wedding. Everyone will be excited, and the first question will be when’s the big day? With having the season down, you can at least say Fall of 2019.

Daydream and let your creative side come alive!

This is the time to create a Pinterest board if you haven’t already, grab magazines, and attend bridal shows to inspire you and offer ideas. Don’t forget to bring your address labels when attending bridal shows. Having labels with you: first and last name, wedding date, and preferred contact information, will make it quick and easy for you to enter drawing for prizes and give your information to vendors that you’d like to connect with again after the show.

Purchase a wedding planner or create your own wedding binder

You’ll most definitely want to keep your thoughts and ideas all in one place. There are tons of apps that can help you do this. One app that we suggest is WeddingHappy.com; it’s like a personal assistant in your pocket. You can share your “event” with your fiancé, mom, MOH so everyone is on the same page.

Start saving money!

Acorns.com is a great app to help you do this. Each of you can open your own account and mark it wedding. From there you can decide if you’d like it to go toward the wedding, or a down payment for a house or use it as a Honeymoon fund. Different types of accounts can be linked to Acorns, and there are several options on ways to grow your account. Guests can even give you an Acorns Gift Card!

How big?! Adult only?

Decide in the beginning how big of a wedding you would like and keep in mind what is affordable. Then connect with both families and create a list of the most important people to invite from both sides. You’ll also want to decide if your wedding should be child-Friendly or Child Free. If you have your heart set on a child-free wedding and have a large number of children in your families, consider hiring a babysitter service and reserve a nearby room at the reception cite or offer contact information of local babysitters for parents to hire. In either case, provide references.

Do you know anyone else that is recently engaged or getting married? Please feel free to email it to a friend, share on Facebook or Twitter.
